CCS Completed Survey for Retrofitting of Methanol Dual Fuel Engine to first operating vessel
CCS Advances Green Maritime Transformation with First Methanol Dual Fuel Engine Certification
A significant milestone in China’s green maritime efforts was reached when CCS Zhejiang Branch awarded a certificate for retrofitting the main engine of the domestic vessel “Lingxian 1” to a methanol dual fuel engine. This certification, issued to Zheneng Mailing’s ship, marks the first of its kind for a modified methanol dual fuel engine product and marine engine air pollution prevention. This achievement underscores CCS’s ongoing commitment to driving high-quality, green, and digital transformation within the maritime industry.
In light of climate change and tightening emission regulations, the shipping industry is increasingly exploring sustainable propulsion options. Methanol, being safer and more manageable than alternatives like hydrogen and ammonia due to its liquid state under atmospheric conditions, is emerging as a leading choice for future marine fuels. The certification of the “Lingxian 1” engine highlights CCS’s role in advancing China’s green energy initiatives, contributing to the nation’s energy security, and supporting the “dual carbon” goals.
Throughout the project, CCS Zhejiang and Qingdao branches played a crucial role by providing technical support in formulating and approving construction schemes, conducting on-site surveys, and resolving emission-related challenges. Their efforts were instrumental in the successful conversion of the ship’s engine to methanol dual fuel, setting a precedent for future retrofits.
Looking ahead, CCS plans to continue its collaboration with industry partners to further develop and certify high-pressure direct-injection diesel engines operating on methanol. This ongoing effort will enhance the green transformation of marine equipment, fostering sustainable development within the maritime sector.
