China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Qingdao Shipyard Tapped for Ming Wah’s Six-Vessel Bulk Carrier Order
On August 10, Hong Kong Ming Wah Shipping Company Limited made an announcement regarding the issuance of an “Invitation for the Project to Build Six 343,000-DWT Bulk Carriers.” This invitation was extended to China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Qingdao Shipyard as the designated supplier.

Formerly known as the state-owned Qingdao Shipyard, China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Qingdao Shipyard has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1949. Following its integration into the China Merchants Group’s shipbuilding division, it underwent a name change to China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Group Qingdao Shipyard Co., Ltd. The shipyard specializes in the construction of various vessel types, including bulk carriers, container ships, and offshore engineering vessels.
Recent Developments and Expansion Plans
On December 3, 2025, China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Qingdao Shipyard secured its first Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOCs) order since becoming a part of China Merchants Shipbuilding. The order consisted of six 342,000 DWT VLOCs commissioned by the German shipowner Neu Seeschiffahrt, signaling a new era for the shipyard’s strategic product focus on oil tankers, container ships, and bulk carriers.
Covering an extensive area of 790,000 square meters, China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Qingdao Shipyard boasts a 1,090-meter outfitting quay and two dry docks of varying sizes. The shipyard is equipped with two large gantry cranes and over 2,000 sets of production equipment, enabling an annual production capacity of 1.5 million deadweight tons (DWT) of shipping.
As the shipyard’s order book continues to grow steadily, the smart integrated workshop project, with a total investment of RMB 500 million, is currently under construction. Once completed, the project is anticipated to enhance the shipyard’s annual steel processing capacity to 94,000 tons, further solidifying its position in the shipbuilding industry.
