Cochin yard starts dredger construction project

India’s Largest Dredger and New Ship Repair Facility Mark Major Milestones for Cochin Shipyard

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) recently started building India’s largest dredger, the DCI Dredge Godavari. This massive ship, known as a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD), will have a hopper capacity of 12,000 m³. It is being built for the Dredging Corporation of India with help from Royal IHC, a well-known company from the Netherlands that specializes in dredger design and construction.

When the 127-meter-long dredger is finished, it will be the most advanced and high-tech dredger ever made in India. This powerful ship will help the Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) keep all the major ports in India more easily accessible. The dredger will be important for making sure that ships can smoothly enter and leave ports by keeping the water deep enough.

In addition to the dredger, CSL has opened a new International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) at its shipyard. The first vessel to be lifted at this new facility was the Lakshadweep ferry, HSC Parali. This moment was a big achievement for Cochin Shipyard and India, especially in the field of ship repair. The ISRF is expected to boost India’s ship repair abilities and improve the quality of services offered.
