Concerning Inappropriate Conduct of Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine and IMEX
Improper Data Rewriting Detected in Marine Engines by Hitachi Zosen and IMEX
On July 5th, Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine and IMEX reported to ClassNK that they had improperly rewritten data concerning fuel consumption rates during the shop trials of their marine engines. The issue affects 950 engines from Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine and 414 engines from IMEX, with around 60% of these engines installed on vessels registered under ClassNK.
This misconduct has been reported to Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT). ClassNK is collaborating with MLIT and various flag states to investigate the situation and ensure the environmental and safety performance of the affected engines.
