Consort Bunkers and Partners Sign MOU to Advance Alternative Fuel Bunkering Ships
Singapore — July 2, 2024, Consort Bunkers Pte. Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ClassNK, Yanmar Asia (Singapore) Corporation Pte Ltd, and Taiko Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. to accelerate the introduction of bunkering ships capable of handling alternative fuels. This strategic partnership aims to enhance the infrastructure necessary for refueling ships with biofuel and methanol, key steps toward decarbonizing maritime transportation.
As part of this initiative, Singapore-based Consort Bunkers has placed an order with COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Guandong) Co., Ltd. for the construction of four 7,999 DWT IMO Type 2 tankers, equipped for biofuel and methanol bunkering. Including previous orders, Consort Bunkers will add 13 new biofuel/methanol bunkering tankers, totalling over 90,000 DWT, to its fleet.
ClassNK will provide surveys and audits for the new vessels, Yanmar Asia will supply main engines and generator engines, and Taiko Asia will deliver cargo pump packages and various engine room and pump room pumps. This collaboration extends the longstanding partnership among these companies, who have supported Consort Bunkers’ fleet for over a decade.
The MOU solidifies the cooperation and partnership for this project and future endeavours, emphasizing the parties’ commitment to leveraging their expertise to complete Consort’s fleet renewal and expansion. This initiative aims to support the regional and global implementation of alternative fuel use in maritime shipping.
