On September 25, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) celebrated a significant milestone with the naming ceremony of the 10th 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker constructed for the Norwegian company KNOT. The vessel was officially christened as “KRISTIN KNUTSEN,” signifying a new achievement for the shipbuilder in the production of high-end shuttle tankers.
Cutting-Edge Design and Features
The “KRISTIN KNUTSEN” is a cutting-edge 154,000-metric-ton shuttle tanker that was independently developed and designed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan). With an impressive overall length of 279 meters and a beam of 48 meters, the vessel is classified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and boasts advanced features such as a DP2 dynamic positioning system and a bow loading system. Its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets Phase III standards, incorporating design elements for alternative fuels.
Sustainable and Efficient Operations
To ensure sustainable and efficient operations, the vessel utilizes technical solutions like a medium-voltage closed-loop busbar and variable-frequency drive propulsion systems. These innovations help reduce the number of operating units under partial-load conditions, enhancing system efficiency, lowering energy consumption, reducing emissions, and aligning with the requirements for green, low-carbon development.
The “KRISTIN KNUTSEN” represents the 10th successful collaboration between COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) and KNOT in the shuttle tanker series. The previously delivered sister ships are currently operational, underscoring the reliability and quality of the partnership’s vessels.
The collaboration between COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) and Norway’s KNOT dates back to 2012, culminating in the successful naming of the 10th vessel. With a combined order backlog of 15 vessels, including the recently named shuttle tanker, the partnership continues to thrive, with the remaining five vessels progressing smoothly within schedule.
