CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding Delivers World’s First 210,000 DWT Ammonia Dual-Fuel

On October 9, 2026, a significant milestone was achieved in the maritime industry as Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), officially delivered the world’s first 210,000DWT Ammonia Dual Fuel Bulk Carrier—Mineral Europa, following the signing of the Protocol of Delivery and Acceptance with CMB.TECH.

Major Breakthrough in Green Shipping

The vessel, named Mineral Europa, holds the distinction of being the first ammonia-powered ship in the 210,000DWT class globally. This achievement signifies a groundbreaking advancement in the green and low-carbon transition of the dry bulk shipping sector. The Protocol of Delivery and Acceptance was ceremoniously signed by Thomas De Graef, Technical Manager of CMB.TECH; Zhou Yinghui, Senior Project Manager of Europe Department of CSTC; and Hao Dawei, Deputy Director of the Business Department of Beihai Shipbuilding.

Pioneering Ammonia as a Zero-Carbon Fuel

Ammonia is recognized within the maritime industry as a zero-carbon fuel with immense potential for facilitating the deep decarbonization of large oceangoing vessels. The successful delivery of the Ammonia Dual Fuel Bulk Carrier not only presents a practical “Chinese solution” for decarbonizing the global bulk carrier fleet but also showcases the technical prowess and first-mover advantage of China’s shipbuilding industry in the realm of green marine propulsion.

Moving forward, Beihai Shipbuilding aims to leverage this accomplishment as a catalyst for furthering its presence in the green and smart ship market. By doing so, the company seeks to make substantial contributions towards achieving the industry’s net-zero target and supporting China’s “dual carbon” goals.

In conclusion, the delivery of the world’s first 210,000DWT Ammonia Dual Fuel Bulk Carrier marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future for the maritime sector. This achievement underscores China’s commitment to innovation and leadership in green marine technologies, setting a new standard for the global shipping industry.
