CY Shipping and BigLift double down on heavylift fleet expansion

CY Shipping and BigLift Expand Fleet with New Vessels

CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping are set to enhance their joint fleet with the addition of two new heavylift vessels, increasing their total to eight. Scheduled for delivery in early and late 2028, these new vessels will be constructed by Jing Jiang Nanyang Shipbuilding in China, although the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed.

New Vessels Designed for Heavy Transport

The latest additions to the fleet are part of the BC-class series, which is specifically designed for transporting heavy and modular cargo. Each vessel measures 180 meters in length and 43 meters in width, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle oversized loads. A significant feature of these vessels is their operational compatibility with BigLift’s existing MC-class units. This design choice allows for greater flexibility in fleet deployment and interchangeability, catering to various project requirements.

DNV Updates Rules to Support Decarbonization Technologies

James Jung, director at CY Shipping, emphasized the strategic importance of these new vessels, stating, “The introduction of the BC-Class vessels reflects our shared vision with BigLift Shipping: to set new benchmarks in heavy transport services.” This sentiment was echoed by Johan Boer, commercial director at BigLift Shipping, who highlighted that the new vessels will not only increase capacity but also enhance reliability and flexibility within their operations. He noted, “With the four BC-class vessels, we’re not just adding capacity—we’re adding reliability, flexibility, redundancy, and a unified standard of excellence.”

The addition of these two vessels marks a significant step in addressing the growing demand for modular and oversized transport solutions in the global energy, offshore, and industrial project markets. As the industry evolves, the partnership between CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping aims to meet these challenges head-on with a robust and capable fleet.
