Daehan Shipbuilding Secures New Suezmax Tanker Order

Daehan Shipbuilding has announced a significant new contract for the construction of a Suezmax crude oil tanker, marking a strong start to the second quarter of the year. The deal, valued at 133 billion won, was signed with an African shipping company and is set for delivery by July 2029. This latest order adds to the company’s growing portfolio, which now includes a total of four Suezmax tankers contracted this year.

Growing Demand and Strategic Expansion

On April 16, Daehan Shipbuilding confirmed the signing of a construction contract with an Africa-based shipping firm for one Suezmax crude oil tanker. This order follows the company’s successful achievement of its annual order target in the first quarter. Earlier this year, the same client had ordered two vessels of the same type in January, added an option for a third in March, and has now firmed up the remaining option for the fourth vessel.

Daehan Shipbuilding Secures Major Orders for Suezmax Vessels

With this latest contract, Daehan Shipbuilding has now secured a total of 13 vessels in 2023, reinforcing its position as the leading global supplier of Suezmax tankers. The demand for these vessels is increasing, driven by stricter environmental regulations and the need to replace aging fleets. Since entering the Suezmax market in 2018, Daehan has developed robust design and production capabilities to meet this rising demand.

Looking ahead, Daehan Shipbuilding has secured enough construction volume to sustain operations through the end of 2029. The company plans to focus on selective orders that prioritize profitability, leveraging its substantial order backlog to navigate the evolving maritime landscape.
