Dajin Heavy Industry Lands Order for Two 211,000 DWT Bulkers from Norwegian Owner
On August 4, Dajin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. announced a significant milestone in its shipbuilding endeavors. The company’s subsidiary, Tangshan Dajin Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., inked a contract with a Norwegian shipowner to construct two 211,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) bulk carriers. The total contract value amounts to around 1 billion RMB, equivalent to approximately $148 million. This translates to a construction cost of roughly 500 million RMB per vessel.
Expanding Shipbuilding Capabilities
The newly contracted bulk carriers boast impressive specifications, with an overall length of approximately 299.95 meters, a beam of about 50 meters, and a draft of around 25 meters. These vessels are set to be delivered in batches commencing in 2029. Dajin Heavy Industry highlighted the growing recognition of its shipbuilding expertise by leading international shipowners through the recent deal with the Norwegian entity.
Rapid Growth and Future Prospects
Notably, Tangshan Dajin Offshore Engineering is a relatively new addition to the shipbuilding landscape, having been established a mere four months ago. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dajin Heavy Industry, it serves as a crucial offshore engineering arm within the company’s operations. With this latest contract, Dajin Heavy Industry now boasts orders for a total of 9+1 bulk carriers, each with a deadweight tonnage of 211,000. The cumulative worth of these contracts surpasses RMB 4.6 billion, signaling a promising future for the company’s shipbuilding division.
