DFO SELECTS VARD TO DELIVER NEXT-GENERATION COMMISSIONING SERVICE OPERATION
Norwegian shipbuilder VARD has recently announced a new build contract for an offshore construction vessel that will support future offshore wind ambitions. The order signifies a growing strategic partnership between VARD and the client, DFO (Dong Fang Offshore), further solidifying VARD’s reputation for delivering high-quality vessels on time.
Versatile Offshore Platform Designed for Multiple Operations
The new vessel is designed to be a versatile offshore platform capable of handling subsea operations, offshore wind installation and maintenance, as well as cable installation and repair in the offshore wind and power cable sectors. With an optimized hull form and powerful propulsion configuration, the vessel promises excellent seakeeping abilities, reduced motions, and strong station-keeping performance. Its efficient machinery and battery-hybrid propulsion setup are geared towards improved workability, operational reliability, and a reduced environmental footprint.
Advanced Features and Comfortable Accommodation
Equipped with a 70 MT active heave-compensated offshore crane, a 700 m2 work deck for cable-lay and repair spread, an ROV launch and recovery system, and the option for a helideck, the vessel is prepared for demanding offshore assignments. Additionally, the vessel will feature 90 cabins with accommodation for 120 people, ensuring comfort and productivity for onboard operations. Operational areas such as offices, briefing rooms, conference rooms, and dayrooms will be designed to high market standards, with premium interior solutions provided by Vard Interiors.
Powered by VARD’s Integrated Value Chain
VARD will oversee the full project through its integrated value chain, covering design, hull construction, outfitting, integration, commissioning, and delivery. Vard Electro will provide a fully integrated power and automation system aimed at enhancing total system efficiency and environmental performance. The vessel will also feature the market-leading SeaQ Bridge, offering comprehensive oversight and control of onboard systems from one location.
The vessel’s hull will be constructed, outfitted, tested, and delivered from Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam, with delivery scheduled for Q3 2028.
