Disney’s largest cruise ship targets Asia with Marvel heroes
Disney Adventure Cruise: A Game-Changer for Singapore Tourism
Walt Disney is preparing to launch its first Asia-based cruise ship, the Disney Adventure, marking an exciting chapter for the cruise and tourism industries. As Singapore’s tourism sees a strong comeback, Disney is ready to ride the wave with this extraordinary venture. Ticket sales open soon, and the ship promises to reshape Singapore’s position as a must-visit destination.
Tickets Go Live Soon!
Starting December 10, 2024, tickets for the Disney Adventure will be available for everyone. This launch is a big deal as it happens a full year before the ship’s maiden voyage on December 15, 2025. Loyal Disney cruise members already got an early chance to book their spots.
Sarah Fox, Disney Cruise Line’s general manager for Southeast Asia, shared her enthusiasm: “The ship is set to be a game-changer. Every part of it has been designed with care.”
Singapore is gearing up to make the most of the Disney Adventure’s arrival. In just the third quarter of this year, the country welcomed 4.4 million visitors—14% more than the same time last year. The ship, with a capacity of around 6,700 passengers and weighing 208,000 gross tonnes, is expected to draw millions of tourists during its five-year stay.
What Makes Disney Adventure Special?
This ship is unlike any other. It’s the biggest in Disney’s fleet and was acquired from Genting Hong Kong for €40 million (around S$56.8 million) after the company’s bankruptcy in 2022. The ship has seven themed areas inspired by Disney, Pixar, and Marvel films. It will offer rides, live stage shows, unique dining experiences, and shops, making it feel like a Disney theme park on water.
Exciting Highlights:
- Marvel-Themed Upper Deck: Featuring a 250-meter Iron Man rollercoaster—the longest rollercoaster on any ship.
- Stage Shows: Live performances with Marvel superheroes and villains.
- Diverse Dining: Asian-inspired dishes from Indian curries to Japanese sushi, plus popular drinks like bubble tea.
For those seeking luxury, there are Frozen-themed suites alongside other cabins. A family of four can book a three-night cruise in an ocean-view room for about US$3,400. The maiden voyage for two adults starts at US$1,564.
Boost to Singapore’s Tourism
The Disney Adventure is expected to attract millions of local and international tourists. Jacqueline Ng from the Singapore Tourism Board believes the ship will bring more cruise passengers, adding to the two million visitors recorded last year.
Edmund Ong, Trip.com’s Singapore general manager, noted a 50% surge in traffic to their cruise booking page after Disney announced the ship’s prices. Waitlist sign-ups also rose by 60% in November. This shows strong interest from travelers eager to experience this magical cruise.
Disney is investing heavily in its cruise line and parks. The company plans to double spending in the next decade and increase its fleet from five to 13 ships by 2031. The Disney Adventure is a key part of this strategy and aligns perfectly with Singapore’s tourism recovery.
