DNV and GRSE Sign MoU for Advanced Shipbuilding and Green Technologies
During the recent SMM trade fair in Hamburg, DNV and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) came together to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing India’s maritime and defense industries through next-generation shipbuilding techniques, digital transformation, eco-friendly technologies, and workforce skill development.
Strategic Partnership for Next-Generation Shipbuilding
The alliance between DNV and GRSE will focus on the delivery of classification services, technical guidance, and regulatory knowledge for naval, defense, and specialty vessels. This collaboration will also involve the implementation of modular construction methods, design enhancements, and the development of innovative vessels such as autonomous systems, advanced offshore patrol craft, and polar research ships. Additionally, DNV will provide consulting services to upgrade GRSE’s repair and overhaul facilities, catering to both domestic and international naval clients.
Focus on Sustainable Technologies and Skills Enhancement
Both entities will work together to explore the creation of ferries powered by electric or hybrid propulsion, low-emission naval support ships, and alternative fuel options like hydrogen and ammonia. The partnership will also include evaluations of full lifecycle emissions and support in achieving environmental mandates such as the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. Knut Orbeck-Nilssen, DNV’s Chief Executive, highlighted the importance of innovative solutions in navigating market uncertainties and expressed excitement about collaborating with GRSE to advance ship design and systems for clients worldwide.
Knowledge Sharing and Capability Building
DNV will share expertise in areas such as AI-driven ship design, digital twin technology, and cybersecurity with GRSE. Educational initiatives will be conducted for GRSE staff, Indian naval architects, and surveyors to strengthen India’s maritime supply network, especially in the Eastern Indian maritime hub.
