DNV and Norwegian startup sign carbon removal agreement worth 10 million Euro

DNV Partners with Inherit Carbon Solutions in Big Move to Reduce CO₂ Emissions

DNV, a global company focused on sustainability, has teamed up with Inherit Carbon Solutions in a major five-year agreement to help remove carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the atmosphere. This deal, worth 10 million euros, is one of the largest projects by a Norwegian company focused on removing CO₂. The agreement shows DNV’s strong commitment to fighting climate change.

Why DNV Chose Inherit Carbon Solutions

DNV has spent years looking into ways to reduce CO₂. After researching many options, they chose Inherit Carbon Solutions because of its focus on carbon removal through biogas. Inherit Carbon Solutions uses a special process to capture and store CO₂ released from biogas production. This helps keep harmful CO₂ out of the atmosphere, which is crucial in the fight against climate change.

How Carbon Capture from Biogas Works

Biogas is produced when biomass—like plant or animal waste—breaks down. This process releases CO₂, a greenhouse gas that can harm the environment. Inherit Carbon Solutions captures this CO₂ before it reaches the atmosphere and stores it safely. This method reduces the amount of CO₂ in the air, helping to slow down global warming.

DNV’s Commitment to Climate Action

DNV’s Group CEO, Remi Eriksen, highlighted that this partnership aligns with DNV’s ongoing commitment to a greener future. “If we want to reach the climate goals of the Paris Agreement, we need big solutions like carbon capture,” he said. DNV has also invested in carbon reduction projects involving forests and seaweed to help absorb CO₂. Now, with this new agreement, DNV aims to use biogas carbon capture to meet its goals faster.

Inherit Carbon Solutions’ Role in Carbon Removal

Kaja Voss, founder and Co-CEO of Inherit Carbon Solutions, expressed pride in partnering with DNV, saying, “Our work proves that carbon removal can play a big role in achieving climate goals.” By working together, DNV and Inherit Carbon Solutions hope to show that biogas producers can make a real difference in carbon reduction.

DNV’s Future Goals for a Greener Business

DNV has ambitious plans to cut emissions in half by 2025. This target includes reducing emissions from employee travel and energy use in offices. DNV’s Ellen Skarsgård, Head of Sustainability Development and Climate, explained, “Carbon removal certificates help us deal with emissions that can’t be avoided. Our approach is to focus first on reducing our own emissions while also supporting other projects financially.” Skarsgård believes this combined approach will help DNV reach a low-carbon future faster.

Moving Forward with Carbon Removal for a Sustainable Future

This partnership is an example of how businesses can take action to help the environment. By capturing and storing CO₂, companies like DNV and Inherit Carbon Solutions are helping to reduce the harmful effects of greenhouse gases.
