DNV and Seatrium Team Up for a Greener Future in Marine and Offshore Sectors

DNV and Seatrium Join Forces to Drive Innovation in Marine and Offshore Industries

Singapore, November 18, 2024 — DNV, a global leader in assurance and risk management, has signed an important agreement with Seatrium, a major engineering solutions provider for the marine and offshore industries. This agreement is called a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and is designed to push forward new ideas and sustainable product development in the maritime world.

Working Together for a Greener Tomorrow

Through this partnership, DNV will help Seatrium by giving expert advice on several key areas. These include market trends, new technologies, and best practices for environmental and safety standards in the marine and offshore sectors. Together, they aim to make current processes better and more efficient, focusing on building new ships, converting old ones, and upgrading existing projects. They will also look for new chances to team up with other groups and organizations to solve big challenges in the industry.

Focus on Innovation and Digital Technology

DNV and Seatrium will work closely to support and encourage technological and digital progress in the marine and offshore industries. Key areas of focus include floating offshore wind turbines, platforms for hydrogen and ammonia production, and new types of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units. They will also use DNV’s expertise to bring advanced cyber security and digital tools into Seatrium’s digital services, making them safer and smarter.

Aiming for a Sustainable Future

Remi Eriksen, the President and CEO of DNV, emphasized the importance of this agreement, saying, “By working with Seatrium, we are taking an important step toward creating more sustainable and strong solutions for the marine and offshore industries. Our combined strengths in innovation will help us meet the challenges of decarbonization and digitalization.”

Chris Ong, CEO of Seatrium, echoed this commitment to a greener future: “At Seatrium, we believe innovation is the key to a sustainable future for the marine and offshore sectors. Partnering with DNV allows us to use cutting-edge technologies to solve today’s energy challenges and prepare for a cleaner future.”

Strengthening an Ongoing Partnership

Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, DNV’s Regional Manager for Southeast Asia, Pacific, and India, highlighted the long-standing partnership between DNV and Seatrium. She explained that improving efficiency and embracing digital tools are crucial for the shift to cleaner energy. “By working together, we can help the industry face new environmental, technological, and regulatory demands as it moves toward a greener future,” she said.

Celebrating New Achievements

As part of the partnership, DNV awarded Seatrium two important certificates called “Approval in Principle” (AiP) during a special ceremony. These certificates were given for two new floating offshore wind turbine designs, the FWSS (Floating Wind Semi-Submersible) and SWACH (Small Waterplane Area Cylindrical Hull). These designs are made to support 15MW wind turbines and are expected to play a key role in the growth of the floating offshore wind market. DNV gave the approval based on its updated offshore rules for floating wind installations, known as DNV-RU-OU-0512.

Paving the Way for Renewable Energy

The floating offshore wind market is expected to grow significantly in the next few years. These new designs from Seatrium provide cost-effective and easy-to-build solutions, showing how innovation can lead to a cleaner and more efficient energy transition. By working together, DNV and Seatrium are setting the stage for the future of marine and offshore industries, focusing on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
