DOF Secures Long-Term Contract with Petrobras for Skandi Commander
Norwegian offshore vessel owner DOF has announced a significant new contract with Petrobras, securing a four-year deal for the ROV support vessel *Skandi Commander*. This contract, valued at approximately $150 million, is set to commence in January 2027. The agreement follows a competitive tender process that previously resulted in six similar four-year contracts for the company.
The *Skandi Commander* will play a crucial role in subsea inspection and intervention tasks, as it will deploy both an autonomous underwater vehicle and a remotely operated vehicle. This dual capability enhances the vessel’s operational scope, allowing for more comprehensive support in offshore activities. The addition of this contract further strengthens DOF’s growing backlog in Brazil, where the company has been actively securing long-term employment for its offshore fleet.
Growing Presence in Brazil
DOF’s recent contract win is part of a broader strategy to expand its presence in Brazil’s offshore market. Chief Executive Mons Aase highlighted that the company has added over $2 billion to its backlog in Brazil this year alone, thanks to a series of successful tenders for Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS), ROV Support Vessels (RSV), and Platform Installation and Decommissioning (PIDF) services.
Aase noted that this year marks a significant milestone, as DOF celebrates 25 years of operations in Brazil. He emphasized the company’s strong position for future value creation, with a substantial portion of its fleet now secured under firm contracts extending beyond 2030. This long-term commitment not only reflects DOF’s confidence in the Brazilian market but also underscores its dedication to providing reliable offshore services.
Strategic Implications for DOF
The contract with Petrobras is a testament to DOF’s strategic focus on enhancing its operational capabilities and expanding its market share in Brazil. The integration of advanced technologies, such as autonomous underwater vehicles, positions the *Skandi Commander* as a versatile asset in the offshore sector. This development aligns with the industry’s increasing demand for innovative solutions in subsea operations.
As DOF continues to build its portfolio in Brazil, the company is poised to capitalize on the growing opportunities in the offshore energy sector. The successful execution of this contract will not only contribute to DOF’s financial stability but also reinforce its reputation as a leading provider of offshore support services. With a strong backlog and a commitment to technological advancement, DOF is well-equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the Brazilian offshore market.
