Dong Fang Offshore lands 15-year SOV contract in Taiwan
Dong Fang Offshore Secures Major Wind Project Contract

Taiwanese offshore vessel operator Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) has secured a significant 15-year contract with Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) to provide a service operations vessel (SOV) for the Formosa 4 offshore wind project. This agreement marks a milestone as it is the longest SOV contract in Taiwan’s offshore wind industry to date. The custom-built vessel will play a crucial role in both the construction and ongoing maintenance of the Formosa 4 project, as well as SRE’s wider asset portfolio.
Details of the Formosa 4 Project
Located off the coast of Miaoli County, the Formosa 4 wind farm is SRE’s third offshore wind initiative in Taiwan. The project successfully secured 495 megawatts (MW) of capacity during Taiwan’s Phase 3 Zonal Development auction held in late 2022. Following this achievement, it received its establishment permit in 2024, paving the way for its development. The collaboration with DFO is expected to enhance the operational efficiency and sustainability of the project, which is part of Taiwan’s broader commitment to renewable energy.
Seaonics To Commercialize Its Ocean Charger Solution After Successful Testing On Electric SOV
DFO, a subsidiary of Hung Hua Construction, was founded in 2019 and is recognized as the first dedicated offshore wind vessel operator in the Asia-Pacific region. The company boasts a fleet of 18 vessels, with several more currently under construction. Notably, three SOVs are being built at Vard in Norway, specifically designated for deployment in Taiwan’s growing offshore wind sector. This contract with SRE not only underscores DFO’s expanding role in the renewable energy landscape but also highlights the increasing investment in offshore wind capabilities in Taiwan.
