DP World Cochin Achieves Record-Setting Performance with 73,636 TEUs Handled in July 2024

DP World Cochin has achieved remarkable success with its International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) handling 73,636 TEUs in July 2024, marking a significant 25% increase from the May-July period of FY 2024-2025. This performance follows a strong June 2024, during which the terminal managed a record 79,044 TEUs. Notably, ICTT has sustained a high volume throughput, consistently surpassing 72,000 TEUs for three consecutive months and achieving a 22% growth in the April-July period of FY 2024-2025.

The terminal’s robust performance includes several milestones, such as accommodating over 7,800 vessels since its inception and handling its largest single-vessel transaction of 6,157 TEUs with the MSC Aurora in June 2024. In the current calendar year alone, DP World Cochin has facilitated approximately 40 additional vessel calls, supporting regional trade growth. The terminal has also successfully managed Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs), such as the MSC Aurora, MSC Darlene, and MSC Mariagrazia, each over 365 meters long.

For the financial year 2023-24, DP World Cochin achieved its highest-ever annual volume of 754,237 TEUs, cementing its role as a crucial gateway for South India’s trade. Praveen Thomas Joseph, CEO of DP World Ports & Terminals, Cochin, highlighted the terminal’s commitment to efficiency and infrastructure development. The introduction of new STS cranes, e-RTGs, and expanded yard space has increased capacity to approximately 1.4 million TEUs annually, reinforcing DP World Cochin’s status as one of South India’s largest terminals.

Enhancing operational efficiency remains a key focus, with the terminal implementing gate automation and real-time vessel tracking to streamline cargo handling. The recent launch of the 75,000 sq. ft. Cochin Economic Zone, Kerala’s first free trade warehousing zone, complements the container terminal, providing seamless trade facilitation and further establishing DP World Cochin as South India’s preferred trade gateway.
