Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) in Panama City, Florida, recently hosted key Department of Defense (DOD) officials, including Dr. Brett Seidle, the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition. The visit also included Rear Admiral Tom Anderson, Program Executive Officer for Ships, and other notable figures. This meeting highlighted ESG’s commitment to enhancing the U.S. shipbuilding sector and supporting national defense initiatives.
Strengthening U.S. Shipbuilding Capabilities
ESG is a leader in America’s maritime industry, dedicated to bolstering the nation’s defense capabilities. The recent visit from DOD officials emphasized the importance of advancing domestic shipbuilding. Joey D’Isernia, CEO of ESG, expressed pride in the company’s role in sustaining and expanding shipbuilding capacity. He stated, “This visit reaffirms the importance of investment in U.S. shipbuilding, and we stand ready to meet the nation’s needs.”
To further its mission, ESG is undertaking a significant infrastructure improvement project at its Nelson Street government shipbuilding facility. This project includes the construction of 1,000 linear feet of additional bulkhead and berthing space. It also involves installing heavy weather mooring infrastructure and extending the launch facility by 120 feet, increasing the total launch way length to over 500 feet. Additionally, the project includes dredging vessel berthing spaces and the shipyard turning basin.
These enhancements are crucial for ESG’s ability to construct and deliver multiple ships annually. They align with future DOD shipbuilding goals, ensuring a robust and resilient fleet for the United States. ESG’s ongoing commitment to improving its facilities and capabilities reflects its dedication to supporting national defense and the maritime industry as a whole.
