ENEOS Xplora Secures Decade-Long Gas Production Deal

ENEOS Xplora, previously known as JX Nippon Oil and Gas, has solidified its commitment to natural gas production in Malaysia with a significant new agreement. The company’s Malaysian subsidiary has partnered with Petronas to extend operations at offshore gas field Block SK10 for an additional ten years, ensuring gas production continues until 2038. This extension is vital for meeting Japan’s energy needs, as Block SK10 plays a crucial role in the country’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.

Details of the Block SK10 Agreement

The recently signed agreement pertains to Block SK10, which is situated off the coast of Sarawak. This block comprises three essential gas fields: Helang, Layang, and Beryl. Since its inception in 2003, Block SK10 has been a significant contributor to Japan’s energy supply, providing approximately 4% of the nation’s annual LNG imports. The deal not only extends the operational timeline but also reinforces ENEOS Xplora’s long-standing relationship with Petronas, marking a continuation of a partnership that dates back to the project’s original award in 1987.
