Everllence Signs Engineering Design Agreement with Hudong-Zhonghua regarding LNG

Everllence, a prominent player in the marine industry, has recently inked an Engineering Design Agreement (EDA) with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese state-owned company headquartered in Shanghai. The focus of this collaboration is the development of a cutting-edge 180,000 cubic-metre class LNG carrier that will be equipped with Everllence’s advanced DFE+ (Dual-Fuel, Electric+) propulsion system.

Promoting Environmentally Friendly LNG Shipping

The primary objective behind this strategic partnership is to enhance and promote the adoption of more environmentally friendly and efficient LNG shipping solutions, particularly in light of the increasingly stringent IMO CII emission regulations. Notably, this isn’t the first time Hudong-Zhonghua and Everllence have joined forces, having previously collaborated on the successful delivery of 10 conventional DFDE (Dual-Fuel Diesel Electric) LNG carriers.

The EDA between the two entities was officially signed on June 5th, 2026. Yang Chunhua, the Technical Centre Deputy Director of Hudong-Zhonghua, and Pan Ke, the Head of Sales & Projects at Four-Stroke China representing Everllence, were the signatories to this significant agreement.

A Step Towards Decarbonization in the Shipping Industry

In response to the evolving landscape of the shipping industry, Song Wei, Chief Technical Engineer at Hudong-Zhonghua, emphasized the crucial role of decarbonization in shaping the future of maritime operations. With the industry striving to achieve GHG Net Zero Emissions by 2050, innovative solutions like the hybrid-electric propulsion system being developed in collaboration with Everllence are poised to offer ship owners a more sustainable and efficient option.

Echoing this sentiment, Dominik Thoma, Global Manager LNG Cargo at Everllence, highlighted the importance of close collaboration between technology providers, shipyards, and engine manufacturers to drive significant efficiency improvements in the maritime sector. Leveraging their respective strengths, Hudong-Zhonghua and Everllence aim to elevate propulsion systems to new heights and address the evolving needs of the industry.

By leveraging their expertise and shared commitment to innovation, Everllence and Hudong-Zhonghua are set to revolutionize LNG shipping and pave the way for a more sustainable future in the maritime domain.
