Exmar wins LNG FSU contract in Colombia
Exmar Secures LNG Storage Deal in Colombia

Exmar has finalized contracts with Regasificadora Del Pacífico (RDP) to deploy a floating storage unit (FSU) on Colombia’s west coast. This initiative is part of RDP’s rapid LNG import strategy in Buenaventura, following a term contract with Ecopetrol to provide regasification and logistics services for 60 MMCFD of gas. The project aims to enhance the region’s energy supply and is poised for significant development in the coming months.
Details of the LNG Import Solution
The LNG import solution will utilize a floating LNG storage and offloading unit. This unit will facilitate the loading of liquefied natural gas from carriers, which will then be offloaded into isotainers. These isotainers will be transported by barge to the port of Buenaventura. Once at the port, the isotainers will be loaded onto trucks and delivered to the regasification plant in Buga. Here, the LNG will undergo regasification before being injected into Colombia’s national transport system.

The initial charter for this project is set for five years, with options for extension. While the financial specifics of the deal have not been disclosed, the Buenaventura LNG project and its associated contracts with Exmar are still pending a final investment decision and other customary conditions. These conditions are anticipated to be resolved before the end of this year, paving the way for the project’s advancement and the enhancement of Colombia’s energy infrastructure.
