MANILA, Philippines — Six Filipino crew members from the MV Magic Seas, who were recently attacked by Houthi rebels off the coast of Yemen, have returned home safely. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed their arrival, with three landing at Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the other three at Clark International Airport on Friday afternoon. The crew’s safe return comes after a tense situation that left many concerned for their well-being.
Government Assistance and Support
Upon their return, the seafarers received immediate support from the government. Each crew member was granted financial assistance of ₱75,000 from the DMW’s AKSYON Fund and the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) Emergency Repatriation Fund. Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided each seafarer with ₱10,000.
Health check-ups were conducted by the MIAA Medical Team to ensure the crew’s well-being after their ordeal. The DMW assured the seafarers of ongoing support for their reintegration into society, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their welfare. To facilitate their transition back home, OWWA arranged hotel accommodations and transportation assistance, ensuring that the crew members could reunite safely with their families and communities.
