Fincantieri Advances Robotics And AI To Build Future Shipyards With Nearly €100

Fincantieri, a renowned global leader in high-complexity shipbuilding, is on a mission to revolutionize its shipyards by incorporating cutting-edge technologies like advanced robotics, Physical AI, and next-generation automation systems. The primary goal behind this initiative is to enhance production processes, making them more efficient, safe, and competitive.

BOOST² Program: Transforming the Shipyard of the Future

Launched three years ago, BOOST² – The Shipyard of the Future is an industrial innovation program spearheaded by Fincantieri. This program aims to identify, develop, and integrate new technologies into the production processes of the Group. Engaging over 450 Fincantieri employees across 13 shipyards worldwide, including those in Italy, Romania, and the United States, the initiative focuses on aligning technology advancements with operational needs. With nearly 100 million euros earmarked for investments as part of the Industrial Plan, BOOST² showcases the latest achievements through live demonstrations, validations of new technologies, and future applications.

Integration of Technologies and Collaboration for Future Growth

The BOOST² program has evolved from its initial phase of technology scouting to a stage where it accelerates the transition from innovation to industrial deployment. Fincantieri is actively supporting the adoption of new solutions in its day-to-day operations while progressively implementing them across all its shipyards. Collaborating with the innovation ecosystem, the company partners with technology firms, including SMEs and start-ups, to develop tailored solutions for the shipbuilding industry. By involving production teams in the development process, Fincantieri ensures that these technologies are field-tested, easily adopted, and scalable across various manufacturing environments.

At the core of the program are Physical AI and collaborative robotics, complemented by Digital Twin solutions, Smart Supply Chain systems, additive manufacturing, and automated industrial equipment. These technologies aim to optimize operational workflows, enhance the connection between design, planning, and production, and ultimately boost productivity, safety, and quality in shipyard operations.

Pierroberto Folgiero, the CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, emphasized the importance of embedding artificial intelligence into physical operations, integrating it with robotics to enhance manufacturing expertise. The company’s ambition is to create a shipyard of the future where intelligent technologies and human expertise work hand in hand, solidifying Fincantieri’s position as an industrial and technological leader.

Through the BOOST² program, Fincantieri continues to advance its transformation journey by consolidating existing solutions, deploying them at an accelerated pace, and maturing new applications. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and direct engagement with shipyards, the company envisions innovation as a key driver of competitiveness for the Group.
