Fire engulfs yacht “Ramonda”, vessel sinks off Montenegro Coast

The Yacht Ramonda sank after being ravaged by a fire on 27th March in Portonovi, Montenegro. No injuries have been reported thus far and a contingency of pollution from the vessel has been accounted for by placing dams around the site.

The incident occurred at around 6:00 PM local time when the vessel was docked at the Porto Novi yacht marina. The Herceg Novi Protection and Rescue Service promptly arrived on the scene with two fire trucks and realized that the fire had spread to the interior of the vessel.

After attempts to contain the fire failed, at 7:50 PM local time, the vessel was transported out of the marina so as to combat the fire in the sea. The vessel was left to burn on the seas and sink after it was decided that the damage from the fire had already been so extensive that the vessel could no longer be salvaged.

The vessel was also carrying around 8000 litres of fuel and dams have been installed surrounding the site so as to prevent any pollution. An investigation has been opened into the matter, and the cause of the fire is yet unknown.
