Fishing Vessel Rescued Off Spanish Coast

Nuevo Pedro Loli

On December 22, the fishing vessel Nuevo Pedro Loli experienced engine failure and became disabled in the Mediterranean Sea, roughly 1.5 nautical miles southeast of Santa Pola, Spain. With eight crew members on board, the vessel drifted helplessly until it requested assistance. The Spanish maritime rescue service, Salvamento Marítimo, promptly dispatched the search and rescue vessel Salvamar Leo to provide aid.

Successful Rescue Operation

The Nuevo Pedro Loli, measuring 24 meters in length, faced a critical situation when its engine failed, leaving it adrift in the open sea. The crew, comprised of eight members, managed to communicate their distress, prompting a swift response from the authorities. The Salvamar Leo, a 22-meter-long rescue vessel, was dispatched to the scene to assist the disabled fishing boat.

Upon arrival, the Salvamar Leo successfully took the Nuevo Pedro Loli under tow and began the journey back to safety in Santa Pola. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries among the crew, nor any damage to the vessel or pollution released into the sea. The prompt action by the Salvamento Marítimo highlights the importance of maritime safety and the effectiveness of rescue operations in the region.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers faced by fishing vessels at sea and the critical role of rescue services in ensuring the safety of maritime activities. The successful operation not only saved the vessel but also ensured the well-being of its crew, reinforcing the commitment to maritime safety in Spanish waters.
