Four Seasons’ First Ultra-Luxury Yacht Cruise Ship Floated by Fincantieri

The ultra-luxury cruise ship Four Seasons I was launched today, January 23, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. This new vessel is part of a growing trend where luxury hotel brands are entering the cruise industry. With a price tag of approximately $1.25 billion, the ship aims to redefine luxury cruising.

Design and Features of Four Seasons I

The design of Four Seasons I combines the elegance of a superyacht with the opulence associated with the Four Seasons brand. Designer Fredrik Johansson, from Tillberg Design of Sweden, drew inspiration from the mid-century glamour of Aristotle Onassis’ superyacht, Christina O, and the adventurous lifestyle of James Bond. The ship will measure 679 feet (207 meters) and have a gross tonnage of 34,000. It will feature 95 luxury suites, each with large balconies and floor-to-ceiling ocean views.

Among the standout accommodations is the Funnel Suite, which spans nearly 5,000 square feet. Each suite will offer 50% more living space per guest than typical cruise ships, ensuring a high level of comfort. The vessel boasts the highest space ratio in the industry, with a staff-to-passenger ratio of 1:1, promising personalized service.

In addition to luxurious suites, Four Seasons I will include a 66-foot outdoor pool designed for relaxation in true Four Seasons style. Guests can enjoy a variety of dining options, a large spa, and dedicated areas for children. The ship will also feature a marina for boating and water activities, enhancing the overall experience for passengers.

Construction of Four Seasons I began with the keel laying on July 9, 2024. The ship is now in the outfitting phase, with Fincantieri scheduled to deliver it by the end of 2025. The cruise ship is set to commence operations in January 2026, initially sailing in the Caribbean before moving to the Mediterranean and Greek Islands in the spring.

The entry of Four Seasons I into the cruise market follows the Ritz Carlton’s venture into luxury cruising. Additionally, Accor’s Orient Express is developing the OE Corinthian, the world’s largest sailing yacht, expected to launch in the summer of 2026.
