Fujian Guohang lifts options on Wuhu kamsarmax series

Fujian Guohang Expands Fleet with New Kamsarmax Orders

Fujian Guohang Ocean Shipping, a prominent Chinese bulker owner and operator, has solidified its commitment to expanding its fleet by finalizing a series of kamsarmax newbuildings at Wuhu Shipyard. The company, listed on the Beijing Stock Exchange, has exercised options for two additional 89,000 dwt vessels, increasing its total order at the yard to ten ships. This strategic move underscores Fujian Guohang’s ambition to enhance its operational capabilities in the maritime sector.

Details of the New Orders

In a significant development for the shipping industry, Fujian Guohang secured slots for up to ten methanol-ready vessels at Wuhu Shipyard, located in Anhui Province. This deal was structured to include four firm newbuilds, with deliveries scheduled for 2025 and 2026, alongside six optional ships. Last year, the company exercised options for four additional vessels, each priced at approximately $37 million. The latest two vessels, however, will come at a higher cost of around $43.3 million each. These new ships will be equipped with advanced methanol dual-fuel engines, reflecting the industry’s shift towards more sustainable shipping practices. Deliveries for these latest additions are anticipated in 2027.

Summer Lull Not Enough to Slow Down Newbuilding Orders

Fujian Guohang’s current bulker fleet, excluding the new orders, comprises over ten vessels, ranging from handysize to kamsarmax sizes. In addition to the kamsarmaxes being constructed at Wuhu, the company is also expanding its fleet with ultramax and panamax units ordered from Jiangsu Haitong Offshore Engineering Equipment. This diversified approach positions Fujian Guohang to meet the evolving demands of the global shipping market while enhancing its operational efficiency.
