FutureMetrics Welcomes Darren Swaan to Its Expert Team
FutureMetrics has announced the addition of Darren Swaan to its team, enhancing its expertise in pellet manufacturing project management. With over 20 years of experience, Darren specializes in overseeing large-scale industrial wood pellet projects from initial concept to final commissioning. His extensive background positions him as a valuable asset to FutureMetrics, which aims to strengthen its operations in the global pellet trade.
Darren’s entry into FutureMetrics marks a significant continuation of the Swaan legacy in the pellet industry. This legacy began with his uncle, John Swaan, who made history by securing the first contract to ship wood pellets in bulk across the ocean. This groundbreaking shipment took place in 1998, when pellets produced at John Swaan’s Pacific BioEnergy plant in Prince George, British Columbia, were transported via bulk carrier from Prince Rupert, B.C., to Sweden. This pivotal moment set the stage for the growth of the global pellet market.
A Legacy of Innovation and Expansion
The Swaan family’s contributions to the pellet industry extend beyond John Swaan. His brothers, Jim and Rob Swaan, founded Pinnacle Feed and Pellet in 1988 in Quesnel, British Columbia. Over the next three decades, Pinnacle emerged as the leading pellet manufacturer in Western Canada. In 2018, the company rebranded as Pinnacle Renewable Energy, and it was acquired by Drax in 2021, further solidifying its position in the market.
Darren Swaan played a crucial role in nearly all of Pinnacle’s expansion projects. He served as the project manager for the Drax Longview Washington project until its indefinite pause in late 2025. His experience in managing complex projects will complement the expertise of FutureMetrics’ operations specialist, John Swaan, and broaden the company’s service offerings in the pellet manufacturing sector.
As FutureMetrics continues to grow, the addition of Darren Swaan is expected to enhance its capabilities and reinforce its commitment to innovation in the pellet industry. With a strong foundation built on the Swaan family’s legacy, FutureMetrics is poised to make significant strides in the global market for wood pellets.
