Fire Erupts on ‘Golden Bridge’, Leaving 12 Injured

On March 6, 2026, a fire broke out in a reefer truck aboard the ferry ‘Golden Bridge‘ while it was traveling from Barcelona to Palma de Mallorca. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. and involved 126 passengers and 46 crew members on board. The ship’s crew swiftly extinguished the fire before it could escalate. Despite their efforts, the accumulation of smoke in the hold led to significant concern.

The ‘Golden Bridge’ successfully continued its journey and arrived at Palma de Mallorca at approximately 9:30 a.m. Upon docking, the ferry was escorted by the Helimer 203 helicopter and the SAR boats ‘Marta Mata’ and ‘Salvamar Libertas’. Emergency services were on standby due to the smoke, prompting a large-scale operation that included firefighters and the Civil Guard. Although tugs were mobilized, they were ultimately not needed.

Once passengers disembarked, paramedics from the SAMU 061 emergency medical service treated 12 individuals. Ten passengers sustained minor injuries, while two, including a three-year-old girl, were in serious condition and required hospitalization. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
