Government launches Vishvasya-Blockchain Technology Stack
India Launches National Blockchain Framework to Advance Digital Trust and Innovation
The Government of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has introduced the Vishvasya-Blockchain Technology Stack, offering Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) through a distributed infrastructure designed to support various permissioned blockchain applications. This new technology stack was officially launched by S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, during a recent event aimed at enhancing digital trust and service delivery.
In addition to the Vishvasya stack, the Secretary unveiled the NBFLite platform, a lightweight blockchain solution tailored for mobile app origin verification, and the National Blockchain Portal. These innovations are part of MeitY’s broader initiative to develop the National Blockchain Framework (NBF), which aims to foster research and development in blockchain technology, ensuring transparent, secure, and trusted digital services for citizens.
The NBF technology stack includes key components such as distributed infrastructure, core framework functionality, smart contracts, and API gateways, along with a focus on security, privacy, and interoperability. Hosted at NIC Data Centers across Bhubaneswar, Pune, and Hyderabad, the NBF supports multiple permissioned blockchain platforms and is designed to be extensible.
The launch of the National Blockchain Framework is set to enhance governance and public service delivery in India by promoting transparency and efficiency. It also provides a blockchain sandbox, NBFLite, for startups and academic institutions to prototype applications and conduct research. The framework, developed through collaborative efforts by organizations like C-DAC, NIC, IDRBT Hyderabad, and IIT Hyderabad, aims to address challenges such as skilled manpower shortages and research hurdles in blockchain technology.
The initiative highlights India’s commitment to becoming a global leader in blockchain technology, driving economic growth, and fostering digital empowerment. As Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary of MeitY, emphasized, scaling the NBF applications across states and departments is crucial for leveraging blockchain’s transformative potential in governance.
