GreenPowerMonitor Unveils Cutting-Edge EMS for Renewable Energy

New Energy Management System by GreenPowerMonitor Boosts Renewable Efficiency

Barcelona, 29 July 2024 – GreenPowerMonitor (GPM), a subsidiary of DNV, has introduced a state-of-the-art Energy Management System (EMS) tailored for renewable power plants. This innovative system marks a major advancement in enhancing operational efficiency, aligning with the global push to expand renewable energy capacity.

DNV‘s 2023 Energy Transition Outlook forecasts that renewable energy’s share of the global energy mix will increase from the current 20% to 52% by 2050. This year alone, the renewable energy sector experienced a significant surge, adding 507 gigawatts (GW)—a 50% rise compared to the previous year.

The new EMS is a timely development designed to support this rapid growth. It provides site operators with sophisticated tools for automated control of power plants. By utilizing multiple schedules from operators, the system enhances flexibility and automation. Its capability to automatically create active power dispatch schedules based on weather forecasts ensures optimal power output throughout the optimization period. This not only improves efficiency but also opens up new market opportunities, enabling users to participate in various energy markets with optimized dispatch schedules.

In addition to day-ahead dispatch schedules that account for weather and price forecasts, GPM’s EMS continuously adapts in real-time to other influencing factors such as high-priority dispatches from transmission system operators and unexpected events like equipment maintenance. The system adjusts its operations dynamically to accommodate the various scenarios a renewable power plant may face.

Designed for seamless integration, the EMS can be easily deployed alongside existing GPM solutions such as GPM SCADA, GPM Power Plant Controller (PPC), and GPM Hybrid Power Plant Controller (HPPC). This compatibility ensures that operators of photovoltaic (PV), wind, or hybrid power plants can effortlessly enhance their current systems with the new EMS.
