GSL Showcases Shipbuilding Achievements on 78th Independence Day, Eyes Future Growth

Goa Shipyard Limited Celebrates Independence Day by Highlighting Shipbuilding Achievements and Future Goals

On August 15, 2024, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) commemorated India’s 78th Independence Day by reflecting on its recent shipbuilding achievements and outlining its future growth plans, all of which align with the broader vision of a “Viksit Bharat” or Developed India.

During the celebrations at the GSL premises in Vasco da Gama, Goa, Chairman and Managing Director Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay led the proceedings by hoisting the national flag and inspecting the Guard of Honour. In his speech, he emphasized GSL’s recent milestones, notably the successful launch of the first frigate under the P11356 program. This frigate, the most complex warship ever constructed by GSL, underscores the shipyard’s pivotal role in enhancing India’s maritime defense capabilities.

Looking ahead, GSL’s future appears promising, with an order book exceeding Rs 18,000 crore and 21 platforms currently under execution. Upadhyay shared that this figure is expected to grow to Rs 30,000 crore in the coming year, thanks to new projects from the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. These developments highlight GSL’s ongoing contribution to the nation’s defense sector and its commitment to innovation and expansion in shipbuilding.

GSL is also expanding its footprint internationally. A significant contract with a Luxembourg-based company to construct a New Generation Hopper Dredger signals GSL’s entry into the global commercial vessel market. This move demonstrates GSL’s ability to compete on the international stage and extend its reach beyond India’s borders.

In addition to its shipbuilding efforts, GSL is committed to sustainability. The launch of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in Mother’s Name) initiative on Independence Day encourages employees to plant trees in honor of their mothers, aligning with India’s broader goals of environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
