The new vessels will be built under the innovative “Powered by Nature” concept, a design initiative developed in partnership with The Norwegian Ship Design Company. This initiative aims to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of maritime operations, aligning with global trends toward greener shipping practices. The vessels are expected to primarily operate along the Norwegian coast and in Northern European waters, contributing to the region’s shipping capabilities.

Innovative Design and Low-Emission Technology

The newly designed bulk carriers, designated as NSD 105CC, will incorporate advanced low-emission technologies. Key features include rotor sails and a hybrid-electric propulsion system, which consists of a shaft generator and a battery pack. These innovations are designed to significantly reduce emissions during operation. Additionally, the vessels will be equipped with electric excavators and various energy-efficiency measures, further enhancing their environmental performance.

Managing Director Ivar Ulvan expressed enthusiasm about the contract, stating, “This is a major day for the company as we now replace older tonnage with new low-emission vessels.” This transition to modern, eco-friendly ships marks a pivotal step for Halten Bulk in its commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.

The introduction of these vessels is part of a broader industry trend towards adopting greener technologies in shipping. As environmental regulations become increasingly stringent, companies like Halten Bulk are taking proactive measures to ensure compliance while also meeting the demands of environmentally conscious consumers.
