HD Hyundai Signs Strategic Teaming Agreement With Croatia’s Iskra Shipyard
In a significant move towards enhancing Croatia’s naval capabilities, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) has officially entered into a strategic teaming agreement with Iskra Shipyard from Croatia. This partnership aims at collaborating on Croatia’s upcoming Multirole Corvette (MRC) procurement program and broader naval projects within the country.
Joint Framework for Fleet Modernization
The formal signing of the agreement took place on October 1 in Šibenik, solidifying a joint framework to support the modernization priorities of the Croatian Navy. Under this partnership, HD Hyundai will bring its advanced warship design and production expertise to the table, while Iskra Shipyard will leverage its established domestic manufacturing capabilities. The primary focus will be on the MRC program, which will serve as a stepping stone for future surface warship projects.
Collaborative Efforts for Naval Advancement
As part of this collaboration, HD Hyundai will contribute its advanced engineering capabilities and extensive local construction experience. On the other hand, Iskra Shipyard will provide crucial local shipyard infrastructure, knowledge of domestic defense specifications, and operational hubs along the Adriatic coast. Beyond the initial corvette procurement, both companies have also committed to exploring joint initiatives in areas beyond the MRC program.
“This agreement marks a pivotal starting point to build a competitive and enduring partnership centered on Croatia’s Multirole Corvette program,” stated a representative from HD Hyundai. The goal is to combine naval design, engineering, and construction capabilities with Iskra’s local manufacturing strengths to contribute to the modernization of the Croatian Navy and expand joint naval shipbuilding endeavors.
Commitment to Local Collaboration
HD Hyundai has affirmed its plans to strengthen ties within the Croatian maritime defense ecosystem by engaging domestic suppliers, engineering firms, and academic institutions. This collaborative effort aims to establish a resilient, self-sustaining local supply chain to support the program throughout its operational lifecycle.
The partnership between Hyundai Heavy Industries and Iskra Shipyard signifies a significant step towards enhancing Croatia’s naval capabilities and fostering long-term industrial and naval shipbuilding synergies within the country.
