HII and Breaux Brothers Complete ROMULUS 151 Hull Flip Advancing USV Production

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has achieved a significant milestone in its ROMULUS unmanned surface vessel (USV) program through a strong partnership with Breaux Brothers Enterprises in New Iberia, Louisiana. The teams have successfully completed the structural build of the first ROMULUS 151 USV hull and have now flipped the vessel, marking a crucial step forward in the construction process.

Partnership Strengthens Maritime Readiness

Currently, a total of five ROMULUS 151 vessels are under construction, with four being built at Breaux Brothers and one at Halimar Shipyard in Morgan City, Louisiana. This collaboration between HII and its partners aims to enhance maritime readiness by delivering scalable and reliable autonomy, all while maintaining strict shipyard discipline and leveraging real-world mission insights.

Driving Innovation in Autonomous Maritime Systems

This achievement underscores the power of industry collaboration in expediting the development of advanced autonomous maritime systems. Breaux Brothers’ expertise in craftsmanship and shipbuilding, combined with HII’s leadership in autonomous technology, is propelling the production of ROMULUS vessels on a large scale.

ROMULUS is a versatile family of AI-enabled USVs that are based on HII’s open-architecture Odyssey Advanced Autonomy Solutions. These vessels are specifically designed to meet the evolving requirements of the US Navy, US Marine Corps, joint forces, and allied partners. The platform supports a wide array of missions, including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), mine countermeasures, strike operations, counter-unmanned systems, and the launch and recovery of unmanned underwater and aerial vehicles.

By reaching this significant milestone in the ROMULUS program, HII and its partners are paving the way for the future of autonomous maritime operations, showcasing the potential for innovation and collaboration in the defense industry.
