Technical Issues Lead to Cancellations for Ferry ‘Himmeltind’
The ferry ‘Himmeltind’, which operates on the Rødøy route, has recently faced multiple technical issues leading to cancellations of its services. On February 12, the vessel suffered significant technical problems that forced all sailings to be canceled. The ferry had been stationary at Reipå since February 11, causing disruptions for travelers relying on this route.
In a separate incident, on January 14, 2026, the ‘Himmeltind’ experienced a more alarming event. The ferry was traveling between Stokmarknes and Hanøy in the Hadsel Fjord when its gangway fell into the sea. This occurred while the vessel was navigating through rough seas at a speed of approximately 23 knots. The crew reported a loud bang, which indicated a failure in the hydraulic system that controls the gangway. Thankfully, there were no passengers on board at the time. Once the ferry arrived at Stokmarknes, the gangway was successfully dismantled and brought ashore. This incident resulted in the need for a temporary vessel change, with the ferry ‘Solundøy’ taking over the route from Storselsøy starting at 07:15 a.m. on January 15, arriving in Jektvik at 08:40 a.m. However, the following day saw additional cancellations, including the 05:10 a.m. sailing from Myken to Tonnes and the 06:45 a.m. sailing from Tonnes to Jektvik.
