HJ Heavy Industries Secures ₩640 Billion Ship Order
HJ Heavy Industries has landed a significant contract worth 640 billion won for the construction of eco-friendly container ships. Announced on September 9, the deal involves building four 8,850 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) vessels for a shipowner in Oceania. The ships are expected to be delivered sequentially by the end of February 2028.
Innovative Eco-Friendly Design
The newly ordered container ships are designed with a strong emphasis on fuel efficiency and increased container capacity. To comply with stringent International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations regarding sulfur oxide emissions, these vessels will be equipped with advanced scrubbers and a desulfurization facility. This innovative design ensures that the ships can significantly reduce their environmental impact.
Moreover, the ships will be built as methanol-ready vessels. This means they are capable of using methanol, a more eco-friendly fuel option, as a source of propulsion.
