HJ Shipbuilding Delivers Eco-Friendly Containership
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) has successfully delivered a new LNG dual-fuel containership from its Yeongdo Shipyard in Busan, South Korea. This milestone marks the first of two 7,700 TEU vessels commissioned by a European shipowner. The delivery took place on January 20, 2022, during a signing ceremony attended by representatives from both HJSC and the shipowner.
Innovative Design and Environmental Compliance
The newly delivered vessel measures 272 meters in length and can cruise at speeds of up to 22 knots. It features a state-of-the-art design that prioritizes environmental sustainability. HJSC has equipped the ship with a Mark III membrane-type gasoline tank, sourced from French manufacturer GTT. This tank has a storage capacity of 6,100 cubic meters, allowing for optimized container space without compromising performance.
In addition to its innovative design, the vessel adheres to the stringent emission standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It meets the requirements for sulphur oxide and carbon dioxide emissions, positioning it as a forward-thinking solution in the maritime industry. Yoo Sang-cheol, CEO of HJSC, expressed confidence in the company’s direction, stating that the successful delivery of this LNG dual-fuel containership enables them to accelerate the construction of similar vessels. He emphasized their commitment to developing eco-friendly ships that align with the decarbonization goals of the industry.
HJSC’s recent achievements include reporting its highest-ever annual order value last year, reflecting a growing demand for environmentally responsible shipping solutions. The company aims to continue its aggressive sales efforts while meeting the evolving expectations of shipowners in a decarbonized era.
