Hunan Jinhang Shipbuilding Secures Order for 1,080 TEU Hatchless Container Vessel
On September 19, Hunan Jinhang Shipbuilding inked a deal with Huaguang Yuanhai International Logistics Group to construct the “Huaguang Yuanhai,” a 1,080 TEU hatchless container ship. This agreement signifies the third collaboration between the two entities, following the successful completion of the “Huaguang Linghang” and the “Huaguang Jinhang.”
Key Features of the “Huaguang Yuanhai” Container Ship
The “Huaguang Yuanhai” boasts a forward-bridge, stern-engine design with twin engines, twin propellers, and twin rudders. Additionally, it is equipped with an electric side thruster at the bow, making it ideal for navigating coastal waters. The vessel measures 129.98 meters in length, 23.90 meters in beam, 11.00 meters in depth, and has a designed draft of 6.60 meters. With a service speed of approximately 10.8 knots, the ship accommodates a crew of 13.
The container ship has a maximum capacity of 1,084 TEU or 542 FEU, with twelve 40-foot container slots on the ship’s side above the engine room deck that can accommodate 45-foot containers. It also features 30 reefer plugs and the ability to store 760 TEU of dangerous goods containers, suitable for various classes of packaged dangerous goods.
Advanced Technology and Efficiency Measures
Equipped with a real-time monitoring system, the “Huaguang Yuanhai” supports video recording, image capture, two-way communication, and remote camera control. The vessel integrates over 40 AI algorithms to provide real-time alerts for onboard violations and stores data for analysis. The bridge features an integrated display consolidating data from key equipment for enhanced decision-making.
Moreover, the shipboard energy efficiency management platform continuously acquires data on critical equipment and evaluates propulsion efficiency to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. It generates recommendations for optimal speed, trim, and main engine load, supports fault early warning, and meets energy efficiency regulatory requirements.
Future Plans for Huaguang Yuanhai International Logistics and Hunan Jinhang Shipbuilding
In July 2025, Huaguang Yuanhai International Logistics signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hunan Jinhang Shipbuilding for the construction of five LNG-powered container ships. These vessels are designed for specific river-to-sea direct routes and represent the largest of their kind in China. The construction contract for the first vessel in this order was finalized on August 11, 2025.
Established in 2009, Hunan Jinhang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is situated in the Yuanjiang Shipbuilding Industrial Park and holds qualifications for constructing various types of steel and aluminum vessels for coastal and inland waterways.
This collaboration between Huaguang Yuanhai International Logistics and Hunan Jinhang Shipbuilding signifies a significant step towards innovative and efficient maritime transportation solutions.
