IACS Fleet Dominates Global Shipping in Tonnage and Deadweight

March 31, 2025 – The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) continues to play a crucial role in the global maritime industry, with its classed vessels accounting for a significant share of the world’s fleet in terms of gross tonnage and deadweight. Recent data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence highlights IACS’s dominance in global shipping, reinforcing its influence on maritime safety and operational standards.

According to the latest figures, the IACS-classed fleet boasts a total gross tonnage of 1,391,219,222, compared to the global fleet’s 1,484,552,948. Similarly, in terms of deadweight, IACS-classed vessels collectively represent 2,022,848,075, whereas the total global fleet stands at 2,160,800,857. While the total number of IACS-classed vessels is 57,283, the global fleet comprises 73,148 ships.
