A 300-year-old shipwreck has been discovered in the Old Port of Dubrovnik, stunning residents and archaeologists alike. Found just below the surface of the sea, this remarkable find has sparked excitement and intrigue in the historic city.

Unveiling a Hidden Treasure

During routine water infrastructure works in April, an 18th-century wooden shipwreck was accidentally unearthed in Dubrovnik’s old city port. Diver Ivan Bukelić made the astonishing discovery just centimeters below the seabed, revealing a piece of history long forgotten.

Preserving the Past for the Future

Radiocarbon analysis has confirmed the ship’s origins dating back to the late 18th century, with its structure partially preserved by sediment. Archaeologist Irena Radić Rossi is leading the research efforts, in collaboration with the Croatian Ministry of Culture, to protect and study this significant find for future generations.
