India aims to be global leader in green hydrogen, ammonia

India-Japan Agreement on Green Ammonia: A Pathway to Future Collaborations

A new agreement for exporting green ammonia from India to Japan is expected to lay the groundwork for a strong supply chain and foster future collaborations in the green energy sector. The Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the significance of this agreement during a recent event, where a Heads of Terms (HoT) agreement was signed between Sembcorp Industries, Sojitz Corporation, Kyushu Electric Power Co., and NYK Line.

Sembcorp Industries will spearhead the production of green ammonia in India, leveraging renewable energy sources to ensure sustainability. Kyushu Electric Power Co. plans to incorporate this green ammonia into their energy mix, partially replacing coal usage at their thermal power plants in Japan. Sojitz Corporation will act as the business intermediary, ensuring smooth operations between the producer and the offtaker, while NYK Line will handle the maritime transportation from India to Japan.
