Indian Navy Flagged Off Sindhu Shikhar Car Rally to Promote Maritime Heritage


New Delhi, June 10, 2024: The Indian Navy has launched the Sindhu Shikhar car rally from Delhi to Leh and back, in a bid to promote awareness about India’s rich maritime heritage and foster maritime consciousness in the northern states. The rally was flagged off by VAdm Sanjay Bhalla, the Chief of Personnel, on June 10, 2024, from New Delhi.

Comprising 40 naval personnel, the expedition aims to cover a distance of 3637 km over 18 days, traversing through remote regions. This rally serves as a major milestone in the Indian Navy’s outreach activities, particularly in the regions of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.

During the expedition, interactions will be held in schools, colleges, and NCC units en route, as well as engaging with proud veterans through a veterans’ interactions program at Chandigarh. These engagements will focus on spreading awareness about the maritime heritage of India, highlighting the significance of maritime activities, and inspiring youth to consider careers in the armed forces.

As part of the outreach efforts, the naval personnel will conduct presentations on how to join the Indian Navy, aiming to motivate and encourage young individuals to pursue opportunities in the defense sector. Through these interactions, the Indian Navy seeks to strengthen its bond with local communities and inspire a new generation of maritime enthusiasts and defenders of the nation’s seas.
