Kerala's Waterways Expand with New Routes and Increased Passenger Footfall

In response to the growing popularity of water transport in Kerala, the Kochi Water Metro and the State Water Transport Department (SWTD) are gearing up to introduce new routes and services. With a noticeable rise in passenger numbers, both organizations are actively expanding their operations to cater to this increased demand. Among the planned developments, the Water Metro is set to launch services on the Kadamakudy-Paliyam Thuruth and High Court-Mattanchery routes within the next two months.

Additionally, the SWTD is preparing to enhance tourism connectivity by introducing a new route to Kakkathuruthu island. Construction of boat terminals at key locations, including Willingdon Island and Mattanchery, is nearing completion, with final preparations such as power supply and dredging in progress. These efforts underscore the commitment to improving waterway infrastructure and connectivity in Kerala, offering residents and tourists more efficient and scenic travel options.
