INTERCARGO Asks RightShip to Reconsider Age Limit Rule for Bulk Carriers
The International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) has raised concerns about RightShip’s recent decision to reduce the age limit of bulk carriers eligible for vetting inspections. This matter was discussed at INTERCARGO’s Executive Committee meeting in London on October 15th.
Many shipowners and managers are unhappy with the change because it was made without consulting them. These are the very people who will be most affected by this decision.
Shipowners Want a Fairer Process
While INTERCARGO supports improving safety and quality in the shipping industry, it believes that decisions like these should involve everyone in the industry. Including shipowners, managers, and seafarers in discussions allows the industry to adjust smoothly. This is especially important because seafarers, who already face many challenges, are worried about the increased workload these new rules might bring.
Request for a Delay in Implementation
INTERCARGO is asking RightShip to delay the new rule’s implementation. The current vetting inspection system is still new, as it was introduced only two years ago. Giving more time before introducing a stricter age limit would help ship operators and seafarers prepare better for the change. At the same time, it would ensure that safety and efficiency continue to be a top priority.
Promoting Collaboration in the Industry
INTERCARGO has promised to continue working with different stakeholders to build a safer and more efficient future for dry bulk shipping. The organization hopes that RightShip and other key players will follow an inclusive approach, involving everyone affected in important decisions.
