Jiangnan Shipbuilding Secures New Contract for Large Ammonia Carriers
A recent agreement highlights the growing interest in large ammonia carriers, with Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), landing a new contract. This deal involves the construction of up to four very large ammonia carriers (VLACs), each with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters.
On August 14, Jiangnan Shipbuilding entered into a contract with Jaldhi Overseas, a Singapore-based company that specializes in vessel chartering and logistics solutions. Jaldhi Overseas, part of Bothra Group, has initially commissioned the construction of two VLACs. Additionally, the parties signed a letter of intent (LoI) for the potential construction of two more vessels of the same capacity.

The financial details of the contract, as well as the expected delivery dates of the ships, have not been disclosed. This new order marks Jiangnan Shipbuilding’s second significant deal involving VLACs within a month.
In late July, Jiangnan Shipbuilding secured another contract valued at approximately $250 million from AW Shipping. This contract also included an option for the construction of two additional VLACs at the same price.
