JOSCO Expands Fleet with New Container Ships

China’s Jiangsu Ocean Shipping Company (JOSCO) has announced a significant expansion of its fleet by securing options for two additional 1,930 TEU container ships at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard. This move follows the company’s earlier order for four identical vessels in May, bringing the total orders at the CSSC-affiliated yard to six. With a projected price of approximately $32 million per ship, the new vessels are expected to be delivered in late 2027 and early 2028.

Growing Fleet and Market Strategy

JOSCO’s recent orders add to an already impressive order book consisting of ten ships. In addition to the six new Bangkokmax units being constructed at Guangzhou, the company has also placed orders for four 3,006 TEU Chittagongmax vessels at Jiangsu Soho Chuangke Shipbuilding. This strategic expansion reflects JOSCO’s commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities in the shipping industry.

China Launches First Hydrogen-Powered Container Ship

While JOSCO may consider placing some of the newly built ships on the charter market, the majority are expected to bolster the operations of Taicang Container Line, the company’s liner subsidiary. Taicang currently operates a fleet of 13 vessels, and the addition of these new ships will help strengthen its position in the competitive shipping landscape.

As the global shipping market continues to evolve, JOSCO’s proactive approach to fleet expansion positions the company well for future growth. With the increasing demand for container transport, these new vessels will play a crucial role in meeting market needs as they enter service in the coming years.
