JOSCO Expands Fleet with New Containerships
Jiangsu Ocean Shipping Company (JOSCO) is set to enhance its fleet by contracting four new containerships from Jiangsu Soho Chuangke Shipbuilding. This strategic move marks a significant expansion for the shipping arm of Jiangsu Port Group, as the new vessels will be the largest in its current lineup. The company’s existing fleet includes 30 vessels, with the largest currently at 1,900 TEU.
Details of the New Order
JOSCO has ordered a series of 3,000 TEU vessels, which will elevate its operational capacity significantly. However, the company has not disclosed the financial details or expected delivery dates for these new ships. This latest order follows a previous agreement for two ultramax newbuilds at the same shipyard, which was formerly known as Sainty Shipbuilding.
The Jiangsu Soho Chuangke Shipbuilding yard, located in Yangzhou, resumed shipbuilding activities last year after a hiatus of approximately seven years. Since its comeback, the yard has received multiple orders for ultramax vessels, catering to various clients, including Chinese leasing companies and George Procopiou’s dry bulk shipping division, Sea Traders. This resurgence in shipbuilding reflects a growing demand in the maritime industry, as companies like JOSCO seek to modernize and expand their fleets to meet increasing global shipping needs.
As JOSCO continues to grow, the addition of these new vessels is expected to enhance its competitive edge in the shipping market, positioning the company for future opportunities in international trade.
