Jinjiang Shipping Expands Fleet with New Orders
In a strategic move to enhance its operations, Jinjiang Shipping has announced plans to build new feeder vessels aimed at bolstering its intra-Asia network. The Shanghai-listed company, under the control of the Shanghai International Port Group, has committed to acquiring up to four 1,182 TEU containerships, with deliveries expected by 2027.
Details of the New Build Orders
The new vessels will be constructed primarily by SUMEC Marine, with Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry and Huanghai Shipbuilding as secondary options. Each ship will measure 147.9 meters in length, 23.25 meters in breadth, and will have a draft of 8.5 meters. Designed to reach speeds of 18.5 knots, the vessels will also be equipped with 145 reefer plugs, enhancing their capability to transport temperature-sensitive cargo.
Jinjiang Shipping, currently ranked 35th among global liner operators by Alphaliner, boasts a fleet of 51 ships totaling approximately 56,400 TEU, with 26 of these vessels owned outright by the company. The recent order marks Jinjiang’s first newbuild acquisition since late 2021, when it commissioned two 1,900 TEU ships from Yangfan Zhoushan, which were delivered last year. This latest expansion comes on the heels of improved profitability for Jinjiang, as the company continues to strengthen its presence across Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East while carving out a niche in regional trade routes.
